over the hill
I've never felt so insecure about going into exams before. It's not that I haven't been studying, I think I've outdone myself with more studying in this past month than in the past ten years of my life. Yet, like sand, my memory just seems to slip out of my grasp and I suddenly feel like I'm left with nothing. That's the fear that's hitting me now. I fear I'm losing it all and my mind's a blank. I know I'll have studied thoroughly for this exams by the time it comes, but can I remember it all? Someone told me that medicine is not about how much you remember, it is about how much you forget.
Less than six hours of sleep a day, more than ten hours of studying a day. I wonder now what it really is for.
One week away.
Over the hill...is home.

abused by drugs
I have been stucked in my room for more than a week, barely getting out of the house to do a few things - deliver my dad and mom's birthday cards, go to church and going for a lecture/Nobel conversation between two Nobel Prize laureates, Stanley Prusiner and Hartmut Michel. This is the first of three conversations that are to be hosted by Stanley Prusiner (who is mentioned in my blog earlier on his discovery of prions). Hartmut Michel discovered the process of X-ray crystallography and thus, this won him the Nobel Prize in Chemistry way back in 1988. He's a German scientist, and from what I gather last night, an extremely proud man.
Professory Stanley Prusiner and Professor Hartmut Michel
To quote him last night on why not to be too bothered by your research boss - you invest 100% of your effort on your project whereas your boss invests only 2% of his time, so does this mean that his effort is fifty times worth more than yours? Another interesting thing was that he did not want to receive the Nobel Prize so early because he curtailed his research career, both in terms of having to take time off for social events and also because people did not feel the need to fund his research because he was no more a rising star and felt he had come up with his best work already.
Meanwhile, I have to put in even more effort into my studying. The gears are clicking, but there is just too much to study. Studying and memorising so many drugs just seems like such a senseless waste of time, as if doctors cannot refer to books in the future and must totally rely on memory. Going on quite a punishing schedule I must say, but I have to press on. Fon is coming back tomorrow! Happy days ahead.
Time to further consolidate my act together and persevere on. I must prevail.

one word to rule them all
This just sums up my entire holiday in Russia! Couldn't help laughing when I stole this picture off Andrew's profile, but it really is hilarious. (Hint: once you've been to Russia, you'll understand what constitutes as one of the most irritating sounding word on the planet).
Meanwhile, back to the studying table.
